Job Summary

This role reports to the Director of Services for Seniors and provides oversight and leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and implementation of clinical care standards and best practices.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement IPAC practices in collaboration with Public Health to meet legislative and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure surveillance and screening program are in place for residents and team members.
  • Consults with the physicians/nurse practitioners on laboratory results and trending of data.
  • Collaborates with the nursing team on the clinical management of residents based on infection. 
  • Ensure IPAC audits as per legislative requirements during outbreaks and complete trends analysis on daily basis.
  • Leads and ensures the coordination of annual flu clinics and immunization programs
  • Ensure a hand hygiene program in accordance with any standard or protocol issued by the MLTC.
  • Manage and oversee the IPAC program and delivery of its education to all staff, caregivers, volunteers, visitors and residents.
  • Ensures the IPAC program is operated efficiently and in compliance with the Long Term Care Act and Regulations
  • Complete monthly/ weekly health and safety inspections for IPAC and safety practices

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses as a Registered Nurse. 
  • Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (B. ScN) from a recognized University School of Nursing
  • Minimum of one to two (1-2) years' experience in infection control is required.
  • have good understanding of adult learning priciples and teaching methods to facilitate learning.
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • Demonstrate leadership and communication skills
  • Professional competiencies related to life-long learning, public relatins and heath environment awareness
  • Possession of strong motivational, team building and time management skills
  • Proficient computer skills with work, excel and electronic document software  

 

Preferred

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is an asset or completion of an IPAC Canada endorsed course and certification in IPAC within 18 months of hire with current demonstrated experience with best practice guidelines for infectious disease prevention and control.
  • Experience in long-term care is an asset
  • Knowledge of the Long Term Care Act & Regulations is preferred

  • Flexibility in workin hours including evenings and weekends is required.

  • Criminal Record Check invluding Vulnerable Sector check uptained within the last six months
  • Two-step tuberculosis test uptained within the last six month
