ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Care, the Infection Prevention & Control Coordinator works collaboratively with Administrator, Managers and Employees to lead, develop and implement an Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Program within Valleyview Residence.
With a focus on continuous improvement, the position will recommend policies and implement procedures and responses to infectious/communicable diseases, compliant with legislation and Valleyview Residence expectations, and ensuring effective IPAC practices; conduct monitoring, surveillance and reporting and liaise with Public Health to manage outbreaks.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario as either RPN or RN
- Sound knowledge of applicable provincial regulations and standards for Ontario.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in geriatrics in a clinical health setting.
- Completion of Basic Infection Prevention and Control Courses
- A current certification in infection control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, and within 3 years of hire attain any additional qualification(s) as required in the Fixing Long-Term Act, 2021 and related Regulations (O. Reg. 246/22)
- Ability to work varied hours to meet requirements of the position.
- Strong oral & written communication skills, with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Advanced computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel).
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary teams, displaying professionalism and employing excellent human relation skills
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, RAI/MDS assessment, and advanced knowledge in Point Click Care)
- Knowledge of occupational health and safe practices, procedures, and legislation
- Experience and/or training in Principles of adult education is an asset.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participating in the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of Valleyview’s infection prevention and control program.
- Directs and supervises all employees in the Home with regard to compliance in infection, prevention and control.
- Proactive prevention of dangerous infectious agents such as viruses and bacteria, outbreaks and epidemics.
- Implementing prevention strategies including education/consultation to all staff, caregivers, volunteers, visitors, and residents.
- Performing infection prevention and control surveillance, collection and implementation of best practices and data analysis. Ensure completion of IPAC surveillance and audits, and maintain accurate, complete and timely IPAC data.
- Identifying trends/patterns and managing investigations of infections.
- Chairs the Infection Prevention and Control Committee
- Participate in the Occupational Health & Safety team to ensure standards for IPAC addressed for staff safety purposes
- Ability to work varied hours to meet requirements of the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Valleyview Residence will support the successful candidate to pursue IPAC preparation courses and the Infection Prevention and Control/Certification in Infection Control (IPC/CIC) as required in the new Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021.
