Shift: 12 hour shifts, Days/Evenings/Nights/Weekends

Summary:

In partnership with Health Force Ontario, Grand River Hospital through Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN) provides a $25,000 incentive to eligible nurses in exchange for a 24-month employment commitment to Grand River Hospital.

To be eligible for the CCPN, a nurse must:

  • Not have been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six (6) months prior to being hired;
  • Hold a Certificate of Registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Begin employment no later than March 31, 2024
  • Commit to 24-months of employment at a full-time work schedule offered by the employer; and
  • Not simultaneously receive funds from the Ministry of Health for the Tuition Support Program for Nurses
  • Match with an employer on the CCPN portal
  • Some restrictions apply. Grand River Hospital reserves the right to determine eligibility based on available positions.


Qualifications:

  • Current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • 2-5 years' experience in Mental Health & Addictions Nursing
  • Certification (CNA), Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Post diploma preparation, relevant to Psychiatric and Mental Health nursing preferred.
  • Practices in accordance with Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to engage in conflict resolution
  • Working knowledge of psychiatric and mental health disorders, the management of psychiatric emergencies and related psychiatric/ psychosocial interventions and treatment models
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in administration and/or monitoring of psychotropic medications
  • Excellent interviewing skills
  • Evidence of putting recovery principles into practice with patients and their families
  • Strong skills in biopsychosocial assessments, care planning, crisis plans, psychiatric nursing interventions and complete outcome evaluation for individual care.
  • Case Management experience preferred, with ability to develop strong community agencies relationships
  • Knowledge of Community Resources required
  • Excellent Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Health Care Consent Act and other relevant legislation
  • Strong consultation skills with the Interdisciplinary team and Community partners.
  • Knowledge of Family assessment/Family systems theory
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, risk management and debriefing
  • Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
  • Good attendance record
  • Advanced de-escalation, Code White training
  • Basic Rescuer CPR
