Reporting to Manager of the Women and Children′s Program, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementation, and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in an interprofessional family centered care environment at the General and Centenary hospitals. Patient caseload includes antepartum, intrapartum, intraoperative, and postpartum care. The successful candidate will work at all the SHN hospital locations.
Requirements:
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Current BCLS
• Minimum of 2 years current intrapartum/postpartum experience
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Certification or completion within 3 months of hire date
• Current Fetal Health Surveillance Certification or completion within 3 months of hire date
• Recognized Breastfeeding course or completion of course within 3 months of hire date
• Committed to complete all Departmental added Nursing Competency Certification within 3 months of hire
• Expectation to work in any area of Women and Children′s Program as required
• Demonstrated clinical problem solving skills and ability to apply neonatal knowledge, skills and judgement
• Demonstrated proficiency in dealing with cultural diversities and caring for families in crisis, including bereavement
• Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
• Interest in patient teaching and working in an environment of theory base practice and family-centred care
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound clinical judgement
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
• Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
• Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN′s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
• Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
• Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
• Excellent work performance and attendance.
Asset:
• BScN
• Certificate course in maternal/newborn care, neonatal assessment
• Certification in blood collection and IV insertions
• Recent intraoperative experiences (i.e. scrub and circulate for caesarean sections)
• Ability to speak another language
