POSITION SUMMARY:

The Occupational Health Nurse Manager (RN) will have responsibility for the management of employee illness/injury related absences. They will lead the development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of occupational health program initiatives and liaise with external agencies to ensure best practices are incorporated within new programs and initiatives.
  • Skilled Leader, who has strong communication skills, is self-directed, innovative, and experienced in the delivery of Occupational Health services
  • Responsible for developing and leading occupational health programs that meet healthcare standards and best practices.
  • Reporting to the Senior Director of Occupational Health, Wellness, Safety and Integration, the Occupational Health Nurse collaborates with colleagues at all levels of the organization including partnerships with the Director of Wellness and Integration, Human Resources, Infection Control, Healthcare Delivery/Operations, Home Office teams and managers to support employee illness/injury management and return to work.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership
  • Functional Leadership for the Occupational Health program and initiatives.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and processes to meet national and provincial standards and support the overall Occupational Health program.
  • Lead initiatives to mitigate organizational and employee risk related to non-work-related illness/injury absences, return to work and medical accommodation.
  • Support the return-to-work process following work-place illness/injury, as needed
  • Co-coordinate and implement influenza vaccine clinics in collaboration with local leader

Investigations and Monitoring:
  • Support management of the process regarding confidential employee health records, ensuring compliance to legislative guidelines and best practice standards
  • Prepare various employee health record assessments and reports. Review employee health assessments to ensure requirements are met for position types
  • Perform risk assessments and provide appropriate intervention and reporting
  • Participate in surveillance initiatives
  • Support employees on medical leave and ensure appropriate medical documentation is received in a timely manner and as per the policy
  • Liaise with all levels leadership to support the development and implementation of timely return-to-work plans for non-occupational absences based on required medical documentation.
  • Collaborate with leadership to manage requests for medical accommodation in consultation with the Occupational Health Physician when necessary
  • Support employees on Long Term Disability and liaise with Insurance Carrier promoting early, and safe return to work initiatives. Arrange for independent medicals as required
  • Collaborate with the Director of Wellness and Integration to support provision of Employee Assistance Program and counseling as warranted

Building and Maintaining Connections
  • Liaise with members of the Human Resources Team as required
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Health Consultant Physician
  • Develop new connections/processes and procedures to the support the Occupational Health program
  • Other duties as required which will include leadership and participation in relevant organizational processes, consultation, and training

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current registration in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Bachelors Nursing degree (required)
  • Occupational Health Nursing Diploma or Certificate/Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Occupation Health Nursing
  • At least 7+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in quality, healthcare and specifically with Occupational Health
  • Strong knowledge of Human Rights legislation, Canadian Immunization guideline, Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Experience in developing Occupational Health programs
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to collaborate and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Curiosity and the desire to learn and grow; willingness to obtain certification and designations as required
