As a member of the interdisciplinary Health Care Team, the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (RN-EC) uses clinical expertise and in-depth knowledge of children, adolescents and families, with a focus on gender affirming care processes and issues, to plan patient care and evaluate clinical practice across the continuum of care for children and adolescents and their families. This also includes the application of knowledge and treatment interventions for co-morbid mental health presentations.
Current Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse Extended Class (RNEC)
Master's of Nursing.
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (RNEC) or Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (RNEC)
Clinical nursing focus and expertise in Child and Adolescent Nursing
Clinical nursing focus and expertise in Child and Adolescent Mental Health
Minimum of 3 years child and adolescent nursing experience
Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate the care of the pediatric patient with an eating disorder related illness in a family centred care environment
Demonstrated ability to foster collegial relationships within and amongst teams
Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in program development, performance assessment, evaluation, quality improvement activities
Demonstrated ability and interest in research related to pediatric eating disorders
Eligible for cross appointment to the McMaster University School of Nursing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Employee Health Services.
- Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in a pediatric mental health setting and experience with gender affirming treatment.
- In-depth knowledge of trans-specific healthcare needs and social determinants of health impacting trans, non-binary and gender-diverse communities in Hamilton, considered an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge with the Mental Health Act, Consent to Treatment Act, Child and Family Services -Act, and World Professional Association for Transgender Health guidelines.
- Relevant pediatric and adolescent gender affirming care experience required
- Demonstrated ability to work using an intersectional, anti-oppressive and anti-racist approach
