● Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 4.00 pm

● Attend 2 one week long school outdoor education overnight camp sessions per year

 

Position Description

Greenwood College School is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse or RPN who will work to promote a healthy school environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying both actual and potential health problems, providing case management services, liaising with Toronto Public Health and collaborating with school administrators, staff, students, and families to promote student health and well-being.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Using their clinical knowledge and judgement, the School Nurse will perform the following duties.

● Be well versed in the directives of Toronto Public Health; revise COVID-19, flu and cold prevention practices and procedures as required

● Provide healthcare and first aid to students and staff as needed and oversee medication administration

● Serve as liaison between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment

● Review student medical information and oversee the collection and implementation of individual student anaphylaxis and/or asthma management plans

● Develop plans for student care based on assessment, interventions, and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care (e.g. post-concussion Return to Learn and Return to Play)

● Serve as a consultant with other school professionals, such as food service personnel, physical education teachers, coaches, the school Social Worker, and the Director, Student Well-Being

● Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings

● Attend weekly student concern meetings as required

● Monitor immunizations, manage communicable diseases, and assess the school environment as to prevent injury and ensure safety

● Oversee some aspects of infection control measures

● Coordinate first aid training for staff members

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications (RN or RPN)

● Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

● Current Certification as an RN or RPN in Ontario

● Minimum 1 year of supervised experience as a nurse; school or camp setting preferred

● Current First Aid and CPR Certification

● Experience with concussion management would be considered an asset

● Mental Health First Aid certification is an asset

● Demonstrated ability to assist students (patients), family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner

● A well-defined sense of confidentiality and diplomacy

● High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability

● Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

● High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning

● Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to privacy

● Genuine care for students, staff and their health and well-being
