Summary:

The Oncology nurse will be involved in all aspects of the oncology program, including patient/family assessment, teaching and administering chemotherapy, and providing supportive and palliative care. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the oncology nurse will participate in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans; quality improvement processes and will support education and research initiatives. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Other information:

· Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario

· Completion of Oncology Foundations Course from the deSouza Institute preferred but enrollment acceptable

· Completion of Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Oncology Course from deSouza Institute is preferred; however willing to train in orientation (must be completed during and obtain their certification as part of Orientation).

· Demonstrated proficiency in IV initiation and Venous Access Device management mandatory

· Canadian Nurses Association certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse (CONC) preferred; however consideration will be given to candidates who are willing to obtain (must be completed within 3 years of hire).

· Minimum of 1 year recent experience in oncology nursing

· Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team

· Working with a variety of computer systems and software applications

· Participation in education and clinical training programs

· Principles of oncology and adult learning

· Therapeutic communication techniques

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently Knowledge in patient-focused care and the needs of the oncology patient population
