Salary Range: $34.24 - $49.02 per hour (Start rate: determined in accordance with collective agreement requirements)
Hours: anticipated 22.5 hours per week with various shifts; days/nights; 12 hour shifts
Status: Permanent Part Time

This 28-bed Inpatient Cardiology Unit serves adult cardiology patients who require primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary levels of assessment, diagnosis and intervention of their cardiac condition. The unit is structured to encompass five services for our cardiology population including general cardiology, electrophysiology, adult congenital populations, heart failure and consults. Staff Nurses develop skills in arrhythmia interpretation, vasoactive medication management and telemetry monitoring.

The majority of patients have diagnoses of:
  • Acute coronary syndrome
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Heart failure
  • Patients with Dysrhythmias
  • Congenital heart defects

As a member of the UHN and the Nursing Multi-disciplinary Team, the REGISTERED NURSE practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. The principal responsibilities include: applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN; ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
  • Minimum one (1) year Cardiac experience preferred
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring including pacemaker management and arrhythmia identification and interpretation
  • Demonstrated evidence of ongoing education in cardiac nursing and involvement in professional associations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be flexible and possess the ability to work effectively and efficiently within a variety of patient care teams
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
