The Operating Room at Toronto Western Hospital has 13 OR suites in the Main OR and 4 suites located in Daysurgery. Surgical services are provided in Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Hand and Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, General Surgery and Urology.

In accordance with relevant legislation and the standards established by the College of Nurses of Ontario the principal responsibilities of the REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE include: contributing to the patient assessment process; implementing patient care plan that include performing and/or providing assistance that include a limited range of strategies and interventions, collaborating with other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team; acting as patient advocate; contributing to the smooth functioning of the department; attending seminars and workshops to facilitate personal and professional growth; performs the duties of the scrub nurse consistent with the job description as assigned; performing other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn perioperative practice through the online AORN Perioperative Course, interactive simulation labs and preceptored clinical practices in 3 services.

REQUIRED

• Completion of college, or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program including practicum experience
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
• Completion of OR certification or MUST SUCCESSFUL PASS the in-house AORN Perioperative Course
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
• Excellent good problem solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
• Demonstrated good manual dexterity
• Ability to work under pressure
• Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
