The Opportunity:

The Resource Nurse supports the coordination and daily operations of the Emergency Department in a clinical leadership capacity in conjunction with the Manager, Critical Care Services. Reporting to the Manager, Critical Care Services, the Resource Nurse is a Registered Nurse who assumes a leadership role for the Patient Care Team. This position coordinates all patient care activities and is a liaison for the Emergency Dept. to ensure care can be delivered in an efficient and safe manner. The Resource Nurse appropriately delegates the workload and is a role model for evidence-based practice, mentoring, teamwork, leadership and professionalism on the unit.

Qualifications:

· Current Certificate of Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario

· Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses

· Minimum of 5 years of current experience in emergency nursing

· Demonstrated competence in applicable clinical nursing including current certification in ACLS, Coronary Care 1 and 2 or equivalent, CTAS, PALS, TNCC

· Demonstrated excellent clinical skills in emergency care nursing

· Demonstrated ability for critical thinking, effective problem solving and conflict resolution

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in stressful situations

· Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills

· Demonstrated leadership qualities, communication skills necessary to promote positive interdisciplinary team dynamics

· Demonstrated team approach and professional attitude with internal and external team members/partners including a good working knowledge of community resources

· Demonstrated positive customer service behaviors and commitment to patient focused care

· Demonstrated reliability, dependability and adaptability

· Commitment to professional growth & development of self and others

· Completion of BScN Degree an asset

· Completion of applicable education in leadership or willingness to obtain considered an asset

Duties and Responsibilities:

Contributes within the scope of an RN as a team member in the assessment, treatment, provision of care and health promotion for all patients through supportive, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitative means while adhering to the standards mandated by the College of Nurses of Ontario.

· Co-ordinates the daily care activities of the staff and ensures compliance with hospital standards, policies and procedures.

· Facilitates completion of ED cases and assists to help organize the add on cases in consultation with the ED manager, and the Physician lead.

· Promotes positive working relationships with inpatient units for best patient care.

· Fosters optimal customer service through role modeling and execution of positive intervention strategies.

· Acts as a clinical resource person and assists with patient care activities when clinical support is needed

· Possesses the abilities, skills, competencies and knowledge to assume care at any level in the Emergency Department. Be prepared to provide assistance to staff where needed during crisis times.

· Daily preparation and posting of nursing assignment, relief requirements, and additional charge duties after hours.

· Reassigning staff as needed to meet the patient care needs of the department and the hospital, being cognizant of workload and deploying support as required.

· In cooperation with the Staffing Office, endeavour to provide adequate staffing and staffing mix for each shift to provide safe patient care.

· Addresses and resolves patient/staff problems during his/her shift.

· Mediates conflicts between patients, families, staff, or physicians, along with the manager as required.

· Other duties as assigned

Hours of Work: 12 hours shifts; DDNN Rotation (Mon-Sun).

Wage: $35.90 - $50.53
