We currently have a Regular Part-Time (0.3 FTE) opportunity for a Professional Leader of Nurse Practitioners in the Interprofessional Practice at all Sunnybrook campuses.

Hours of Work: Weekdays: Days; 8 hrs; As per schedule

Summary of Duties:

We are seeking a dynamic individual to be the Professional Leader of the Sunnybrook Nurse

Practitioners. This individual will be a key member of the organization's professional practice structure with responsibilities across all programs and campuses. Reporting to the Director of Interprofessional

Practice with matrix reporting to the Director of Interprofessional & Academic Education, the Professional Leader promotes Sunnybrook's mission, vision and values across the organization to provide the highest quality person-centred care.
  • Provides leadership, direction and expertise to ensure that professional standards support the delivery of safe, competent and ethical person centred care.
  • Promotes a strong interprofessional practice and learning environment
  • Ensures professional, ethical and legal standards of the profession are met and sustained, as per regulatory bodies, professional associations, and organizational policies.
  • Provides consultation and support to staff and leadership with respect to professional issues.
  • Role models personal professional development while promoting staff responsibility/accountability for self-directed continuing education.
  • Facilitates student education for the Nurse Practitioner students and supports preceptor recruitment.
  • Acts as a Sunnybrook representative and liaises with academic institutions with respect to NP student education.
  • Supports a comprehensive orientation for newly hired NP staff and students.
  • Develops partnerships, networks, and collaborations with broad stakeholders to promote and enhance the development and delivery of quality care, education and research within SHSC and the academic community
  • Leads or serves on intra- and interprofessional committees where clinical and educational input and expertise is required, at a program, corporate level, and system level.
  • Provides consultation to leadership on issues related to Nurse Practitioner practice.
  • Acts as a consultant in their areas of expertise with respect to practice, education, research, and leadership.
  • Participates in virtual or live communities of practice to share and lead in practice, education, research and leadership.
  • Participates and provides consultation and recommendations in recruitment and the provision of performance feedback for Nurse Practitioners
  • Represents the profession within the hospital, community and health system
  • Promotes and support the professional and academic development of Nurse Practitioners, including working to full scope
  • Facilitates, supports, and participates in scholarship, research and evidence-based health care including quality improvement and research utilization activities
  • Coordinates learner opportunities with the universities, offer guidance with respect to any placement issues,
  • Supports education/professional development, potential external partnerships, and innovative programming
  • Provides leadership and advancement for the profession via the Sunnybrook's professional council of Nurse Practitioners
  • Advocates for the role of the Nurse Practitioner at Sunnybrook and within the health care system

Qualifications/Skills
  • Registered and in good standing with an Extended Class Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum 7 years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner, preferred Masters' Degree in Nursing
  • Actively practising as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Academic appointment at University of Toronto
  • Demonstrated excellence in collaboration within and across disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement projects and research studies
  • Self-directed, strong critical thinking, change management, problem-solving and organizational skills
