Summary:
The Acute Pain Service nurse works collaboratively with physicians, nursing and the allied health team under the direction of Anesthesiology to provide consultation and intervention with regard to acute pain management. The Registered Nurse functions as a role model and provides mentorship and leadership to the health care team where acute pain issues exist.

Qualifications:
- Current Registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Experience within the last 6 months in the acute management of patients requiring epidural catheters, PCA, and regional anesthesia along with oral modalities
- Knowledge of current and evolving pain modalities
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in Orthopedics, Gynecology, General Surgery, Critical Care
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently
- Must demonstrate leadership in effective utilization of resources achieving best practices in pain management
- Advanced assessment skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to successfully provide staff training in pain management
- Develop and utilize research based teaching & resource material, policies and educational resources
- Masters of Nursing preferred
- Good attendance record
