The Faculty of Health Sciences at Ontario Tech University invites applications for a year limited term Academic Associate position in the area of Nursing to commence on September 1, 2022 in our Collaborative Undergraduate Nursing Program. This position reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and is subject to budgetary approval..

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their own teaching in the University's web-centric and mobile learning environment. Primary duties include preparing, delivering and grading all course material, assignments, quizzes and exams for as assigned. The Academic Associate will be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course. Duties may include the supervision of teaching assistant(s) and working with Clinical Sessional Instructors.

The successful candidate will be appointed as an Academic Associate for the equivalent of 7 standard courses in the Fall and Winter term(s) and will be expected to follow a 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% other, each year of this contract

Required Skills:
  • A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students
  • Candidates will have demonstrated excellence in teaching with undergraduate/graduate students in a nursing program
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver classes remotely, using online modalities such as Kaltura Media and Google Meets
  • Proven experience managing large classes and diverse populations
  • Experience coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicable
  • Excellent organizational skills are needed to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments and exams and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely manner

Required Education:
  • An undergraduate degree in nursing (BScN) and a Master's degree in Nursing or a related field would are both required.
  • PhD and practice experience as an RN preferred


Required Experience:
  • Applicants for this position must be Registered Nurses (Regular or Extended class) and hold a current license entitling them to practice with no restrictions with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence and experiences in nursing education in a post-secondary environment at the university level.
  • Past experience or ability to deliver undergraduate content in one or more of the following domains would be beneficial: clinical education, health assessment, med-surgical nursing, and nursing theory. In addition, experience with simulation would be an asset.
