The Toronto South Detention Centre, Ministry of the Solicitor General, seeks a health care professional with the proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of patient-centred health care.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Coordinate, direct and evaluate health care programs.

• Ensure the delivery of efficient, quality health care services, including nursing, medical and other related health care services, specialized treatment units, and on-site infirmary.

• Manage the pharmacy program, including ordering, reconciling, and distributing, and ensure the maintenance and security of all medications, office equipment and medical treatment supplies.

• Coordinate various physiological tests (e.g. urinalysis, TB testing, blood tests) and the preparation of referrals for psychiatric, treatment, X-ray, optometrist, laboratory, dental and physiotherapy.

• Develop, plan and implement the delivery of health services education programs for both inmates and staff.

• Maintain records and statistics to identify trends and developments that have critical program/service delivery, policy and planning implications and formulate recommendations for mitigation.

• Establish critical liaisons with other correctional health care providers to establish and maintain professional linkages and consult regarding contentious issues.

• Respond to enquiries from the Ombudsman and other sources with respect to offenders on health care matters.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory:

• You are a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Nursing Knowledge and Expertise:

• You have knowledge of health care administration and evidence-based health care practices

• You have proven knowledge and competency in the application of the College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards and practices to supervise nursing services within a correctional environment

• You can interpret, and apply knowledge of, relevant legislation, such as Regulated Health Professions Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Mental Health Act

Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of human resources practices, collective agreement provisions, financial and administrative policies, quality management, and continuous improvement practices

• You have knowledge of relevant legislation, such as Regulated Health Professions Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Mental Health Act

Other Essential Skills:

• You have proven interpersonal, oral communication and conflict resolution skills to provide consultation, and resolve issues with stakeholders and staff

• You have strong writing skills to prepare reports

• You have excellent analytical, problem-solving and judgement skills

• You are proficient with computer software applications

Salary Range: $68,671 - $105,038 Per Year
