Job Details

RNAO invites eligible PhD-prepared NPs with expertise in research, in particular as principal investigator, and experience in working with programs of research to apply for its inaugural NP research chair position. The primary aim of the NP research chair is to enhance, build, and enable robust research conduction and dissemination focused on clinical outcomes associated with NP and clinical nurse specialist (CNS) practice.

The NP Research Chair will oversee and provide direction for a program of NP and CNS clinical research that focuses on six priority areas. These include: primary care, acute care, Indigenous health/wellness, mental health and substance use, older adult health, and issues related to people who experience homelessness or are underhoused.

The objectives of the NP Research Chair are to:

  1. identify and showcase health outcomes, including client, organization, system and financial, related to the clinical roles of NPs and CNSs
  2. evaluate the impact NPs and CNSs have in health promotion, disease prevention, care, diagnosis, treatment, and referral of vulnerable, marginalized and underserved populations, sectors, and areas of practice
  3. engage with knowledge mobilization to influence policy decisions related to a transformed health system anchored in primary care and advanced practice nursing (NP and CNS) human resources
  4. provide opportunities for NPs and CNSs to develop knowledge and skills in the utilization of health outcomes data and databases

The successful candidate is passionate about the mission and values of RNAO and the impact of NPs and CNSs on population health and their leadership role in transforming the health system driven by the quadruple aim anchored in the sustainable development goals. The candidate is enthusiastic about conducting, enabling, and shaping research relating to the clinical work of NPs and CNSs, in particular within vulnerable, marginalized, underserved, Indigenous and acutely ill populations.
