We currently have a Regular Full Time opportunity for a Registered Practical Nurse in the Same Day Surgery at our Bayview campus.
Hours of Work: Weekdays: Days and Evenings; 8 hrs; As per schedule
Weekend: Days and Evenings; 8 hrs; as per schedule
Summary of Duties
We are seeking an experienced RPN with current surgical experience, including pre-operative and post-operative assessment, and discharge experience. The individual must have strong clinical assessment skills and organizational abilities to provide a high level of patient care in the immediate pre-operative and post-operative phase.
The primary responsibility of the RPN includes physical and psychological assessment, instruction and preparation of patients undergoing a variety of surgeries.
The RPN should have an ability to adapt to a fast-changing and stressful environment
And be able to provide physical assistance with patient mobilization, transfers and ambulation.
The RPN will be responsible for providing post-operative health teaching on recovery and pain management. The Same Day RPN must support the philosophy of Person- Centred Care and the Mission Vision and Values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The RPN works closely with the RN and other

Qualifications/Skills
- Current Ontario College of Nurses Registration
- Diploma in RPN mandatory
- Current BCLS certification required
- Minimum 1-2 years recent surgical experience required
- Successful completion of Physical Assessment course
- Venipuncture IV certification and phlebotomy skills required
- Successful completion of Medication Administration course
- Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and ability to prioritize in a stressful environment required
- Excellent computer skills required
- In-depth knowledge of the effects of General and Regional Anaesthetics
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Proven ability to promote Client Centered Care in a clinic environment
