Working as a member of the inter-professional team, the Registered Nurse (RN) will provide specialized comprehensive services to the Child and Adolescent Program at the Centenary Campus. The scope of the role will include nursing expertise in an Inpatient Child and Adolescent Unit and Day Hospital for patients 18 years of age and under. As part of the outpatient First Episode Psychosis Team, care will be provided to patients age 35 years of age and under. The Registered Nurse will act as a role model and resource person for staff in both the provinces of clinical care and health care leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitating the overall functioning of the inpatient unit and day hospital
• Ensuring the provision of care in the Child and Adolescent program is consistent with the standards of multidisciplinary regulating bodies and best practice
• Coordinate care in collaboration with the patient/family, the multidisciplinary team, and the community
• Active participation and facilitation of regular team meetings and case conferences
• Assist in the development of staff competencies and best practice standards
• Coordinate patient flow in and out of the program, liaise with internal departments and external facilities
• Ensure appropriate scheduling and safe staffing levels on the Child and Adolescent Unit/Day Hospital
• Nursing assessments, psycho education and treatment plans for complex outpatients experiencing a psychotic illness
• Administration of medications in an outpatient setting
• Nursing consultation for all patients of the First Intervention Treatment Team
• Case management and community outreach
• Individual, group and family therapy
• Coordinating patient care in collaboration with the patient/ family , members of the Interdisciplinary team, and other community providers

This position is ideal for a RN with a passion for working with children and young adults. The successful candidate will also participate in program development, data collection and evaluation.

Requirements:

• Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred
• Sound working knowledge of hospital functions and values, as well as current trends in nursing and health care
• Comprehensive clinical knowledge of paediatric physical and mental health assessments, diagnosis and treatments
• Minimum 5 years recent experience in child/adolescent acute care psychiatry
• Minimum of 3 years recent experience in Early episode psychosis treatment in an outpatient setting
• Minimum of 3 years Charge nurse experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of community resources for children, adolescents and young adults.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgement and leadership skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work well within an inter-professional team and to foster effective working relationships
• Current CPI and BCLS certification
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Scarborough and Rouge′s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participate in regular in-service in this area
• Proven good attendance record and ability of maintaining same standard
