Position: Registered Nurse x2 - New Grads

Department: Emergency

Status: Permanent Full-time

Hours: Various rotating 12 hour shifts. 0730-1930, 1130-2330, 1930-0730; Hours subject to change based on operational requirements.

The Emergency Department:

The new emergency department will be four times the size of the current department and will include:
  • An electronic patient documentation and tracking system to manage each patient's records from the moment they arrive
  • Dedicated paediatric space to accommodate short term treatment and observation for children as well as a post emergency paediatric clinic.
  • A dedicated ambulance entrance separate from the patient "walk-in" entrance
  • An enclosed ambulance garage with direct access to the department

Halton Healthcare has been participating in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) program for several years and is excited to be participating again this year! This program has allowed us to support new Registered Nurses by providing them with full time employment opportunities that are initially above staffing complement to assist their transition into practice period with Halton Healthcare.

This is what you'll be doing:

Providing patient care, nursing assessment in all areas of the Emergency Department, you will administer care to adult and paediatric patients from all triage priorities. It is essential you are competent in a diverse range of skills from stabilization and care of the critically ill to first aid. You may be required to transport critical patients including burn victims, neurological emergencies and trauma victims to other facilities.

This is what you'll need to do it:
  • Graduated with a BScN/BN program or a diploma from a registered nurse program in Canada OR completed their nursing education outside of Canada
  • Current Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario within the last 12 months (Internationally Educated nurses included)
  • Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire
  • Match with the employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Must be eligible under the New Graduate Guarantee (NGG)
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • ACLS provide, PEARS and Coronary Care 1 within 6 months of hire
  • Computer skills an asset
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy experience/asset
  • Good team player
  • Self-directed
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required

The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation.

Salary: $34.24 to $49.02 per hour
