Position: Dean of Nursing

Type: Full time, permanent

Reports to: Dean of Academics (DOA)

Location: Remote (6-12 months) initially with the future requirement to be on campus in Sackville, New Brunswick

The Dean is responsible for the organization, administration, planning, development, and effectiveness of the Bachelors of Nursing program in the University. The Dean oversees the program and faculty to ensure compliance with all accrediting standards and regulatory guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead, supervise and manage all aspect of academic operations in the respective program. Facilitate the training of faculty in institutional policies and procedures. Develops academic policies and programs in cooperation with the DOA and facilitates communication to faculty. Works with DOA to ensure compliance with institutional accreditation (MPHEC and PETL). Works with DOA and Faculty to ensure compliance with specialized programmatic accrediting criteria to include NANB. Teaching classes as deemed necessary by DOA. Leads the Faculty in the following: continual review of existing curriculum, development of new initiatives and programs, and constant review and improvement of instruction methodologies and maintenance of approved syllabi. Approves and facilitates communication of all changes in curriculum, books and supplies to Faculty, Director of Learning Management System and Registrar department. Evaluating their faculty in following the prescribed curriculum at all times to include, but not limited to, course objectives, course content, timely grading and hands-on experiences (where applicable). Manage faculty to ensure all courses are conducted with adherence to contact hours per   credit requirements. Oversees faculty recruitment, hiring, orientation, assignment, evaluation, training, professional development, and management of their faculty. Oversees faculty’ advisement of students with regards to satisfactory academic progress, scheduling and transferring between programs as well as conflict resolution. Conduct weekly regularly schedule meetings to address and mentor proactively any issues, obstacles, or challenges. Coordinate and maintain the essential documentation of faculty files and continuous professional development training for all faculty with adherence to institutional and programmatic accreditor requirements. Scheduling regular program advisory board meetings and selection of board members. Attends program advisory board meetings as an ex-officio member. Review student surveys each term, discuss with faculty and identify areas of continuous improvement. Performs classroom observations of faculty who are teaching classes. Provide a mentoring environment for the faculty. Perform annual performance evaluations of faculty. Oversee the appropriate scheduling of classes and assignment of instructors and communication with Registrar's office and faculty. Works, in collaboration with Director of Learning Management System Administrator, to lead and mentor Faculty in curriculum development and utilizing best practices in the online platform. Oversee faculty with Student Services on the monitoring of student retention metrics based on accreditation guidelines on a regular basis to ensure the appropriate benchmarks are being proactively monitored and satisfactorily achieved.  Provide feedback of strategies of revisions to programs not meeting benchmarks. Oversee faculty with Career Services personnel in assisting students with placement opportunities and career guidance. Review monthly placement reports and provide guidance to faculty as necessary. Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty/Employee Handbook. Demonstrate continuing professional development related to the role and responsibilities.  Maintain licenses and certifications as applicable. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

 

 

 

  • Understands online and campus-based pedagogies. Utilizes adult learning theory in the administration of academic programs leading to student success. Understands institutional accreditor, federal and provincial regulatory requirements that affect the academics of the University. Expert in written and oral communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents including federal, provincial, and local regulations. Ability to interpret key statistics related to effectiveness of University operations. Ability to interpret academic and administrative policies and procedures. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and produce reports under strict guidelines. Ability to handle multiple responsibilities, task-oriented projects, and details simultaneously. Ability to manage staff and collaborate effectively throughout the university.

 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING:

 

 

 

  • Masters degree in Nursing required. Current active, or ability to obtain, Registered Nurse license in NB required. Minimum 4 years of work experience as an RN. Minimum of 3 years academic teaching and leadership experience.
