The Operating Room at Toronto Western Hospital has 14 OR suites in the main OR and 4 suites located in the Ambulatory Unit. Surgical services are provided in Orthopedics, Hand and Plastic surgery, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology/Urology and General surgery, with a focus on minimally invasive surgeries. The TWH OR is recognized as a major center for Neurosurgery, including the Neuro-Spinal specialty.

In accordance with relevant legislation and the standards established by the College of Nurses of Ontario the principal responsibilities of the REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE include: contributing to the patient assessment process; implementing patient care plan that include performing and/or providing assistance that include a limited range of strategies and interventions, collaborating with other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team; acting as patient advocate; contributing to the smooth functioning of the department; attending seminars and workshops to facilitate personal and professional growth; performs the duties of the scrub nurse consistent with the job description as assigned; performing other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned.

REQUIRED
  • Completion of college, or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program including practicum experience
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
  • Completion of OR certification and equivalent OR experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent good problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
  • Demonstrated good manual dexterity
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
