Summary of Duties

The Acute Care Nursing Resource Team (ACNRT) is a new and innovative program at Sunnybrook designed to give the nurse a broad range of skills and knowledge to practice in a number of specialties within set clinical clusters. ACNRT is currently seeking nurses who would be interested in expanding their skills in Sunnybrook's Neurovascular Unit - Stroke Ward and Level 1 ICU. This is an ideal opportunity for nurses, from the novices looking to jumpstart their careers to the experts seeking to grow their career and become critical care certified.

The Neurovascular Unit (NVU) is a specialized unit that serves as the designated stroke in-patient unit for Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the North & East GTA Stroke Network's Regional Stroke Centre. Nurses will function collaboratively in a primary nursing environment as part of the interprofessional care team. In addition to promoting excellence of care the nurse will actively demonstrate effective communication skills, problem solving, conflict resolution and critical thinking skills. During this time, the candidate will be able to solidify knowledge, gain expertise in neurovascular care, and work towards further growth and development. The integration of research findings into practice, the pursuit of education opportunities and active participation in unit activities are supported and strongly encouraged.

Reporting to the ACNRT Patient Care Manager, the resource team nurse will primarily be assigned to NVU and undergo orientation and training in the Neurovascular Unit - Stroke and Level 1 ICU then given the opportunity to enroll in the Critical Care Certificate program. This is an exciting opportunity to diversify your career and develop critical care skills.
