We currently have a Regular Full-Time opportunity for a Registered Nurse (Code Stroke) in the Neurovascular Unit at our Bayview campus.

Hours of Work:

Weekday & Weekends: Days, Nights; 12 hrs; As per schedule

Statutory Holidays Required

Summary of Duties

This is an exciting Ministry of Health sponsored, developmental nursing opportunity being offered to qualify RNs who are interested in developing highly valued critical clinical assessment skills, advanced problem solving and leadership skills in a supportive environment. Formal training and designated education time will be provided in order to facilitate development of these learning objectives.

Selected RNs will have the opportunity to alternate assignments on the Code Stroke Team and B4 NVU.

Qualifications/ Skills:
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required
  • Completion of accredited Critical Care Nursing certificate required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in critical care preferred
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate required
  • Experience in neuroscience / stroke nursing care preferred
  • Completion of accredited Critical Care Nursing certificate preferred
  • Current ACLS preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out relevant clinical stroke-related best practices, knowledge integration, and skills within the management of complex neuroscience stroke cases that bridge the full continuum of care
  • Interprets clinical assessment findings and makes appropriate recommendations
  • Demonstrates effective critical thinking and prioritization in complex and evolving situations
  • Ability and insight to determine boundaries in scope of practice and role limitations
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in working with an Interprofessional team, and superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Facilitates collaboration between care teams (including the Stroke Team, Emergency Department (ED), Interventional Team, PACU, and Critical Care)
  • Computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, database software)
