Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, located on Hamilton's beautiful mountain brow, is home to the Regional Cancer Program as well as a community emergency department, a general medical and intensive care service, and a robust surgical program. It serves a population of more than 2.3 million people. The site has a rich history, and originally treated soldiers in WWI. More than 100 years later, is a headquarters for some of the country's most advanced cancer care and clinical trials.

Located at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, wards EF4 consist of two in-patient units (Surgery & Surgical Oncology and Medicine & Surgery).

These units care for oncology patients undergoing surgical interventions for diagnostic, treatment, and palliative purposes as well as patients undergoing general surgery, colorectal, hepatobiliary, plastics, urology, and gynecology. On E4, there are 3 Observational Care beds (obs) providing expert level care for complex post-operative complications and monitoring through technological methods such as patient safety net monitoring.

Both units utilize a patient & family-centered, evidence based approach to care and are frequently recognized for their positive impact on patient experience. EF4 is known for integrating interventions to reduce the incidence of hospital harm indicators such as Sepsis, Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections, Surgical Site Infections, and Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections.

Registered Nurses (RNs) working in these units help coordinate, evaluate, and advance patient care to allow for healthy populations. These fast-paced units provide an exciting environment with high acuity to enhance clinical knowledge and skill. Our nurses are highly skilled and frequently support learners and students and are acknowledged as experts in wound care, pain management, and surgical care. There are many opportunities for professional growth and career advancements within this program.

The RN collaborates with surgeons, physicians, and physician assistants to implement and evaluate patient care. They are frequently caring for higher acuity patients with complex medical needs in a large multi-disciplinary team and demonstrate critical decision-making and patient advocacy.
