As a member of the dynamic multidisciplinary Emergency Department team, the Registered Practical Nurse ensures quality and appropriateness of care for patients of all age groups within the scope of the and the Standards of Practice for Registered Practical Nurses of Ontario and in collaboration with the Registered Nurse. The RPN will participate in continued education and completion and maintenance of certifications associated wit the identified nursing skills and complete learning plans to achieve these goals.
  • Current certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
  • Recent Emergency Department or Critical care setting as a Registered Practical Nurse (within 2 years) required
  • Proven ability to work in a high volume high turnover environment and that have moderately complex care requirements
  • Current certificates or current community college studies in asepsis, wound care, airway management, complex wound care, physical assessment, urinary catheterization, administering enteral feeds, medication administration, trasnscribing physician orders and ECG application.
  • Documented completion of a recognized IV administration and IV management, Venipuncture and Blood and Blood products administration course.
  • Current Heart and Stroke Foundation BCLS certification or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, regional programs and the Patient Priority System.
  • Demonstrated expertise in physical assessment, 12 lead ECG monitoring, health teaching and clinical decision making.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge of cardiac and respiratory arrest procedures
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, both written and verbal, the ability to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and community resources.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, maintenance of critical care skills relevant to the scope of the job description and participation in ongoing continuing education.
