The Kensington Gardens Long Term Care is seeking a dynamic Nurse Manager who have experience in Long Term Care and enjoy working in a team environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible to the Director of Care (DOC) for the monitoring, leadership and provision of resident care and services of assigned Resident Home Areas (RHA).
  • Monitors the resident’s record for accuracy and completeness as required by the professional licensing standards and in accordance with the Ministry of Health as provided in the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007.
  • Monitors the medication and treatment routines including the delivery of skin and wound care utilizing best practice. Communicates findings and actions to the DOC.
  • Liaises with family members as necessary and deals with concerns and issues. Refers concerns as necessary to the DOC.
  • Communicates with the Staffing Coordinator to ensure staff appears for duty and all positions are filled on each shift. Replaces staff as necessary.
  • Evaluates personal care staff through performance appraisal. Recognizes staff performance as necessary.
  • Supports management/employee conflict resolution. Participates in the process of labour management, as necessary.
  • Monitors modified work programs for the personal care department and liaise with the Supervisor of Health and Safety as necessary.
  • Performs audits to collect and support data as necessary.
  • Ensures health-related equipment and supplies are provided to the RHAs. Provides input to the DOC as to prioritization of need for purchase of new equipment.
  • Promote the philosophy and practices of resident centeredness and humanizing in all resident encounters and decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with the Resident’s Bill of Rights. Respects spiritual, cultural and ethnic aspects of a resident’s life.
  • Empower the Personal Care staff with the responsibility to plan effective care for each resident with resident input.

Qualifications:

  • RN with a current certificate of competence from the College Nurses of Ontario
  • Current membership with Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) is preferred
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in long term care setting is an asset
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience being in charge of the building
  • Demonstrates an understanding of current trends and concepts relative to professional Nursing
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent performance accountability with an overall commitment to KHC’s Accountability Framework
