Job Description

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

As a Registered Nurse in the Wellness Department, you will be working as part of an interdisciplinary team, using best practice knowledge and professional nursing practices to support the delivery of care to youth requiring the most intensive psychiatric care in the province of Ontario.  You will use your nursing knowledge and skills to provide medical care in tandem with psychiatry and other allied health disciplines to optimize the care delivery to youth in a Secure Treatment setting. 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assessing and evaluating the health status of youth, including the development of specialized care plans. triaging health care needs, consulting with the interdisciplinary team, interviewing and obtaining health information from family or other community health care providers as needed.
  • Documenting health care assessments, treatment, condition, behaviour and the evaluation of health/mental care status in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Professional Standards and Ministry policies.
  • Providing emergency health care services, crisis intervention, health teaching/counselling, harm reduction and infection prevention and control for youth.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) of personal health information.
  • Consulting with the inter-professional team as required.
  • Ensuring health care/nursing practice aligns with the security measures within Syl Apps Youth Center.
  • Maintaining professional competencies as a Registered Nurse in Ontario by participating in continuing education relevant to our practice environment
  • Assisting in the orientation of new employees, including mentorship and training of new registered nurses to the department

Qualification and Skills

  • Baccalaureate Nursing Degree and/or Diploma in Nursing
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Experience in paediatric nursing is an asset
  • Experience in Mental Health Nursing is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use your critical thinking and problem-solving to navigate within a fast paced and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Basic first aid and CPR is required.
  • CNA Mental Health Nursing Certification is an asset

 

Kinark Child and Family Services conditions of employment include but are not limited to successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, completed Pre-Employment Medical certificate, and proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.
