Registered Nurse - Diabetes Nurse Educator

Full-Time Registered Nurse, Diabetes Nurse Educator

The Barrie Community Health Centre is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN), Diabetes Educator to join our Diabetes Management Centre (DMC). The RN, Diabetes Educator provides comprehensive individual and group counseling/teaching to adults at risk of or living with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes. The DMC team is composed of nurses and dietitians working in partnership with endocrinologists and primary care providers.

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized university (preferred)
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum 3 years recent experience in nursing
• Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification (CDE) is an asset or willingness to obtain
• Insulin pump experience an asset, as this is an insulin pump management centre;
• Ability to learn and adapt to new diabetes management technologies
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
• Demonstrated experience in effective teamwork, strong communication skills as well as experience in group facilitation
• Demonstrated ability to adjust to competing priorities
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills
• Ability to excel in a self directed learning environment and attend on-going educational opportunities
• Experience with an electronic medical record (EMR) as well as the use of other relevant technologies used in Diabetes care

Candidates with experience in adult diabetes management and education including knowledge of the principles of the self-management chronic disease model, adult learning and change theory will be given preference.
