What you will be doing

The safety of our Canadian employees needs to be front and center with everything we do at Innomar Strategies. The Occupational Health Nurse, under the direction of the Senior HR Manager, will be primarily responsible for maintaining the health and safety program within the Clinics and Nursing departments. They will also be a key member of the National Safety team and participate and support other departmental initiatives as needed.

In collaboration with their manager, the Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing and maintaining various safety processes and programs for the Clinics and Nursing department and ensure collaboration and consistency with the National Health and Safety initiatives.

They will be responsible for ensuring adherence to safety regulations and recommend changes that will keep our associates safe and ensure compliance with all government regulations. They will also act as the main point of contact for the Nursing and Clinics department as the health and safety resource partner.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The Occupational Health Nurse offers Occupational Health Services to the Nursing and Clinic department including safety and infection control/prevention education, promotion of positive health and wellness, treatment of work related illness and injury, and follow-up of ill and injured workers
  • Assist with the development and implementation of infection control surveillance and case management within nursing including endemic/pandemic planning
  • Support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Provide medical monitoring and surveillance for nurses including but not limited to pre and during TB testing surveillance, vaccination statuses/programs, post needed stick or workplace infection control surveillance and case management
  • Collaborate with and act as a resource to the nursing department in developing and maintaining a safe work environment
  • Develops return to work strategies following work related injuries and supports the Benefits Specialist as needed with Disability files and coordinating RTW plans including care plan and treatment
  • Conduct accident and illness investigations within nursing and clinic setting
  • Manage work related incidents/injuries for nursing/clinics departments including support to associates as part of the follow up to any work-related injuries (ie. needle sticks, ergonomic concerns)
  • Liaise with workers compensation boards, health care professionals, management, and associates to ensure optimal recovery and an early and safe return to work
  • Develop and manage the infectious disease program within the workplace
  • Design, develop and deliver health promotion/wellness initiatives in collaboration with the benefits team
  • Design, develop and maintain health medical records system and reports conforming with company and regulatory requirements to ensure associate confidentiality and privacy
  • Keep up to date with legal and professional changes associated with public health, occupational health, and workers' compensation regulations
  • Liaise with health and safety representatives in the clinics, ensure they have up to date information and are following reporting processes
  • Manage Nursing credentials at onboarding - First Aid Certification, CPR, ACLS, immunizations, TB tests (as required) and ensure documented with scheduling/Workday and audit regularly
  • Conducting employee assessments, diagnosing; ordering and interpreting work related medical tests;
  • Coordinates N95 respirator fit testing program with Business Area Managers and ensures all are up to date
  • Act as a consultant as needed with the Nursing Education and Training team to ensure all drugs being administered have proper handling practices in place and up to date SDS available through the online platform
  • Identify health needs for workers, develop objectives, and implement programs in health promotion, maintenance and rehabilitation
  • Lead the Violence Prevention Program and various initiatives
  • Provide consultative services to Nursing and Clinics department regarding trends and best practices
  • Support the National Safety program as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


What your background should look like

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Registered Nurse with valid license in the province of Ontario
  • Current certifications in CPR and First Aid
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nurse specialty, pursuing CNA Certification an asset
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years in Occupational Health nursing ideally in a healthcare related industry (hospital or long-term care)
  • Knowledge of health care roles/duties an asset
  • Knowledge of Provincial H&S regulations and guidelines
  • Experience in managing Workers' Compensation claims
  • Experience providing advice to managers, associates and/or Health and Safety committees on policies related to occupational health and safety in the workplace;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical surveillance programs, disability case management, return to work programs and health promotion
  • Demonstrated knowledge of occupational medicine, health and safety, Workers Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Code and Public Health
  • Ability to handle work with sensitive issues and protect confidentiality of medical information
  • Sound judgement in the application of nursing and safety principles
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures, as well as occupational wellness programs
  • Bilingualism in English/French an asset

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be resourceful, self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Must have sound judgment, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to clearly and succinctly communicate, market and sell practical H&S solutions to all levels of business.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to handle issues involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to self-direct and to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work as a team member with the management team.
  • Computer skills with the ability to use Work, Excel and Power Point
  • Must be flexible and creative in developing solutions that deliver results.
  • Experience leading or coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders, such as managers, employees, employee representatives or members of Occupational Health and Safety
  • Ability to travel throughout Canada
