The role

We are recruiting an enthusiastic and committed Registered Practical Nurse for an immediate temporary assignment in a Hospital in Kitchener, ON . The role requires the ability to function effectively in a transitional care unit and in team environment with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and administrative staff. The role also requires a high level of interpersonal skills to interact with patients and their families.

Pay: $40/hr

Shift: 8hr / 12hr

Your Responsibilities
  • Preparing and administering prescribed, routine, medications and treatments as directed by the Physician and in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario's Medication Administration Standards.
  • Documenting and following up on all concerns and complaints forwarded by a Client, family or team members and informs/seeks assistance from the Registered Nurse or designate.
  • Promoting the Client's self-care and self-sufficiency, emphasize adaptation and abilities, promote wellness and provide preventative health education, thus by treating the whole person.
  • Completing all required assessments, RAPS and care plans within timeframes as required.
  • Supporting the unregulated care workers through guidance, direction, training and education.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Your qualifications and know-hows
  • Current certificate of registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Minimum of three (3) months of general nursing experience
  • Proof of Liability Insurance
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
  • Awareness of RPNAO and RNAO initiatives that promote best evidence based practice
  • At least, 1-year recent full-time bedside experience as a Registered Practical Nurse
  • Certificate in CPR.
  • Current Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable sector
  • Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of the nursing process as it relates to the general medicine patient and the ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting
  • Theoretical knowledge of the care of the geriatric patient, and ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess the patient's learning needs and ability to plan appropriate teaching
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to patient care;
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess the patient's discharge needs and participates in the planning process;
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health discipline;
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and problem solving skills; identifies a commitment to personal continuing education activities;
  • Demonstrates an understanding and a willingness to participate in self-evaluation;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the application and relevance of the Quality Assurance Program and participates in unit activities;
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
