The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Manager, Occupational Health & Safety and Infection, Prevention and Control (IPAC) to identify early and safe return to work opportunities, develop and facilitate return to work programs, communicate with the WSIB and Long Term Disability case managers, provide mask fittings to staff, and provide TB testing and immunizations as needed.  This role will also create and deliver training to new employees during the orientation and to existing staff for annual refreshers, facilitate Joint Health & Safety meetings and the use of the online MSDS system. This role will also be an active member and role model for the Internal Responsibility System and act as a leader in the promotion of safety for all staff members, and also be a role model and promoter of healthy lifestyle with a strong work ethic and commitment to work attendance.

You are currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and are a certified Occupational Health Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse. You possess Levels 1 & 2 Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee training and have extensive working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations for the Health Care sector, as well as Early and Safe Return to Work plans and related legislation. Your one to two years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety or disability management within a unionized setting is complemented by your experience with disability benefits, WSIB, modified work programs, and absence management. 

An excellent communicator with demonstrated skills in managing complex inter-personal relationship in a confidential, caring and compassionate manner you provide strong problem solving and decision-making skills while working independently and as part of a dynamic team. 

As a condition of employment, external hires are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department.
