EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY  Registered Nurse, Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) 4 days per week- 3 Year Contract

As a fully accredited community health centre, Anishnawbe Health Toronto offers access to health care practitioners from many disciplines including Traditional Healers, Elders and Medicine People. We seek an individual to fill the position of Registered Nurse who will function as an effective member of a multidisciplinary health team. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing appropriate health history, and intake assessments for the RAAM
  • Counseling, education, advocacy, health promotion, treatment advice, internal referrals and follow-up
  • Contributing to the development of services and programs for the Addiction Medicine Program
  • Providing clients with harm reduction advice and materials
  • Arranging for walk-in patients to be sent to nearby emergency departments if medically necessary
  • Connecting client to primary provider if needed
  • Treating and screening for substance abuse concerns
  • Providing care that reflects an understanding and competent knowledge of health and other issues facing the Aborignial community

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong work and organizational skills
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Strong consultation and collaboration skills
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Ability to function independently within profession’s established parameters
  • Computer skills (minimum intermediate level) with Purkinje software knowledge an asset
  • Knowledge and appreciation of health and other issues facing Aboriginal communities such as the effects of the post-colonial and residential school syndromes
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Knowledge and experience in community-based health care
  • Recent clinical  experience with addictions and mental health preferred
