About the department
The Diabetes and Obesity Education Program is part of the CDE programs and services department and the Novo Nordisk Changing Diabetes ® brand.
We are dedicated to changing how diabetes and obesity is treated, how it is viewed, and how the disease evolves in the future. Our mission is to enhance diabetes and obesity management competencies and address capacity issues in primary care, ensuring that people living with diabetes and obesity have the resources needed to move towards self- management.
This is a full time field-based contract position. In the Diabetes and Obesity Educator role you will be responsible for educating primary care providers, medical specialists, other medical staff and patients on how to better manage diabetes and obesity according to Canadian guidelines. A key part of the job is to deliver customized educational programs in a train the trainer model. The right candidate will have plenty of opportunities to become a valued partner in health system improvements that will optimize diabetes and obesity management, empower healthcare providers, and enhance self-efficacy of patients. Diabetes and obesity Education at Novo Nordisk Canada operates in a frequently changing environment where tasks and priorities may change from one day to the other. Fast pace, cross-departmental collaboration, and clinical assessments will be part of your workday. Approximately 15-45% overnight travel depending upon territory and training requirements
Key prerequisite to master the Diabetes and Obesity Educator job are a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience within the relevant health profession. A certified diabetes educator and /or certified bariatric educator or equivalent experience is preferred.
The right candidate has the following experience:
- Working in a multidisciplinary team in the primary care environment
- Facilitating relationships between multiple stakeholders including the local practice, community partners, and allied health care professionals.

- Experience in:
- delivering education to healthcare professionals and patients
- Motivational interviewing techniques
You should have strong communication and rapport-building skills, be innovative, proactive and able to manage time very well. You are a team player, but you also enjoy working independently. Your personal values, integrity and sense of ethics are impeccable.
A degree as well as current registration in a related health profession (i.e. Nursing or dietetics) is required. Certified Diabetes Educator and/or Certified Bariatric Educator is preferred. Must have or be willing to enroll in CDE and/or CBE certification program.
