Registered Nurse & Registered Practical Nurse:
Your goal in this position is to provide clinical competence, excellent patient and family driven care, in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You will do this by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers, with an emphasis on the assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health. You’re a great relationship builder, and foster close contacts with peers across the entire organization. You have great interpersonal skills, and effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. You will take on the shared responsibility for ensuring that health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

• Demonstrate the ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nurse of Ontario
• Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients/clients, families and other members of the health care team
• Think critically, set priorities and organize work in response to client/patient needs
• Be committed to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement 
• Have proficient skill level with computers, MS Word, Internet searches, data entry and patient information systems
• Demonstrated evidence of self- motivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, patient education and related geriatrics
• Have effective organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, time-management and teaching skills
• Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good public relations and working relationships in a family centered care environment
• Clinical competence in assessment and monitoring of critically ill patients


Qualifications

• Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing

• Registered Practical Nursing diploma from a recognized Community College

• Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

• RNAO member (RN's only) or RPNAO member (RPN's only)

• Patient Assessment course, preferred

ICU, Telemetry & ER 
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, preferred
• Certificate course in Critical Care, Coronary Care and/or Emergency Care Nursing, preferred
• Minimum 1-2 years acute care nursing experience

Medicine 
• Minimum 2 years of recent Medical/Surgical and/or clinical nursing experience working with older adult, dementia and cognitively impaired population preferred
• Minimum 1 year recent experience in Medicine/General Surgery
• Geriatric training/experience
• Ostomy, TPN, tracheotomy care, chest tube, IVtherapy, and IV initiation experience

Nursing Resource Team
• Minimum 1 year recent experience in Medicine/General Surgery
• Pediatric, Mental Health and Emergency experience
• Geriatric training/experience
• PCA, epidural, ostomy, TPN, tracheotomy care, chest tube, IV therapy, and IV initiation experience

Surgery 
• Minimum 1-2 years recent surgery/ambulatory surgical care, operating room, plastics/orthopaedics, pre/post-op, and/or general surgery experience
• IV Certification
• Current Medication Certificate
• Operating Room post-diploma program certificate
• Genetic termination experience, preferred
• Certified in Perioperative Nursing (CPNc), preferred
• PCA, Epidural, Ostomy, TPN experience, preferred
• Laser course, preferred

Working at NYGH means working with a dynamic team of fellow healthcare providers, staff, and volunteers in one of Canada’s leading hospitals. We are looking for full time, part time, casual and temporary RN's and RPN's for the MED-SURG and the NYGH Nursing Resource Team. We offer a highly competitive total compensation package that may include benefits, pension, and vacation. Rate of Pay: RN's $32.21 and RPN's $25.71. 

RNs in the ICU and Nursing Capacity Initiative (rotating between ICU, ER & Telem) will have the opportunity to: 
• FREE education: Critical Care Course - required a two year commitment 
• Extended unit orientation
• Experience working on 3 units of the hospital
