Position Summary

The Senior Director of Care (DOC) is responsible to the Administrator in overseeing all aspects of the Nursing department by ensuring that the quality of resident care exceeds standards required to maintain excellence in resident service and safety.  The Senior DOC is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of systems to effectively and efficiently manage care services in the home.  This position leads and supports nursing staff to consistently achieve resident care goals and objectives, while ensuring timely and appropriate care interventions, managing human and physical resources effectively, efficiently, within budget and regulatory requirements.  The Senior DOC works collaboratively with the Administrator and Finance Team to plan, develop and manage operational budgets related to nursing and contracted services. This position is responsible for overseeing contracted services including but not limited to physiotherapy, foot care, and dental care.  The Senior DOC is responsible for providing oversight of the recruitment and selection of nursing staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels to provide excellent resident care.  As a leader at Idlewyld Manor, the Senior DOC provides overall leadership to the nursing team, fostering a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation and encourages innovation and best practice approaches to care.  This includes building leadership within the nursing team to enhance and excel nursing practice.  The Senior DOC is responsible for leading all clinical quality initiatives, including continuous quality improvement for clinical and nursing indicators.  The Senior DOC will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating required clinical programs as outlined in relevant legislation.  This position acts in the absence of the Administrator.

Employment Guide

Must be a Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario, and be a member in good standing.  A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.  Must have a minimum of five years’ experience working in a Long Term Care facility in a leadership capacity.   Must possess excellent working knowledge of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Act, and excellent understanding of RAI MDS and CMI.  Must have working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act ESA legislation.  Proven ability to coach and train with an understanding of adult learning principles an asset.  Must possess exceptional leadership abilities and demonstrate a passion for engaging employees and promoting a supportive and productive work culture where service excellence is a priority.  Experience operating within a unionized environment and knowledge of the collective bargaining process preferred.  Effective problem-solving skills; prioritization and organizational skills; written and oral communication skills; and advanced computer skills are essential.  Ability to build strong relationships with a variety of individuals including residents, families, employees, community partners required. A valid driver's license is required as well as successful completion of a Police Check, Vulnerable Screening Check and medical.
