Occupational Health Nurse

Key Responsibilities

The Occupational Health Nurse will assume responsibility for the delivery of Occupational Health & Wellness Services and programs which include baseline health assessments and health surveillance in accordance with the OHA/OMA Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols. This position will manage the immunization programs, N95 respirator fit testing and assist with outbreak control and management.

Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • Primary care for both occupational and non occupational illness/injury, disability case management – WSIB, STD, LTD
  • The co-ordination of modified work/early and safe return to work process
  • This role will provide assistance and expertise on the hospital's attendance support program and will assist with the delivery of safety and wellness programs
  • Provides diverse healthcare services and early intervention to prevent employee illness and injury and maintain health/wellness
  • Advises management and employees on occupational health issues in the workplace
  • Assists to ensure the organization is in regulatory compliance


  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS/First Aid Certificate
  • Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or Occupational Health Nursing
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse designation (COHN) preferred
  • 3 years experience in Occupational Health
  • Advanced working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and other relevant legislation
  • Superior interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Venipuncture experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
