Salary Range: $71,930- $84,698

 

LOCATION:

This position will be primarily located at the North West Location (20 De Boers Drive, Toronto, ON).

 

PURPOSE:

To assist in the operation of a medical clinic providing health services to a paediatric/adolescent population 0 to 21 years of age.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists in the operation of the medical clinic and works with physician by conducting routine tests, urinalysis, taking blood samples, arranging for specimens, assisting in physical examination of client and updating charts.

  2. Conducts nursing assessment which may include physical assessment, obtaining health history from client and/or parent or worker and triage according to priority.

  3. Dispenses prescribed medications and administers immunization injections as directed by physicians. In absence of physician may administer medication and immunizations according to standing orders approved by the physician.

  4. Prepares medical summaries for adopted and discharged children.

  5. Provides consultation to staff, foster parents and clients re: health issues (including mental health issues), medications prescribed by community physicians, management of abnormal behaviours (such as feeding and sleeping patterns), application of consent to treatment legislation as it pertains to consent for medical procedures and psychotropic medications.

  6. Provides counselling in lifestyle, sexual health and health related issues to clients, staff, foster parents and biological parents.

  7. Assumes responsibility for operation of the clinic in the absence of Health Services Co-ordinator.

  8. Provides nursing coverage in any of the Society’s medical clinics, as required.

  9. Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Society’s health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.

  10. Acts in accordance with and incorporates Society's Code of Ethics, Confidentiality, Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination policies, etc.

  11. Uses sound judgment in consideration of financial resources.

  12. Complies with Society’s financial policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses.  Baccalaureate degree preferred.

    Minimum 3 years nursing experience in a hospital or community setting with paediatric, emergency, outpatient clinic experience, and/or paediatric mental health.

  • Current certification in CPR

Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong problem-resolution skills.

  • Strong conflict resolution skills. Ability to function independently in the absence of a physician.

  • Computer literacy.

Assets:

  • Proficiency in a second language
