HSN is the tertiary care centre for Northeastern Ontario, affiliated with Laurentian University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. It has 4,000 employees, 600 medical staff members, 2,100 learners and 700 volunteers in 14 sites in Greater Sudbury and in 17 other locations across Northeastern Ontario. Its patient experience survey results are above the average of Ontario’s academic hospitals on most indicators. HSN is seeking two experienced, talented leaders with a track record of building successful teams and partnerships to ensure the delivery of high quality care and outstanding patient experiences. Under the leadership of the Senior Vice-President, Patient Experience and Digital Transformation, these leaders will be system thinkers and excellent communicators who have the ability to plan and implement change, achieve results and doing so with creativity. They have the skills and credibility to inspire a division of 500-1,000 employees, earn the trust of medical staff, local partners, Ontario Health and colleagues from over 20 partner hospitals, and manage a budget of $40-150 million. The ideal candidates bring VP/Director level experience in a hospital, hold a graduate degree and are bilingual (English/French). Other relevant experiences and credentials may be considered. One of these two VPs will also serve as Chief Nursing Executive. Women, Indigenous, Black candidates and Persons of Colour are particularly encouraged to apply.

 

VP Medicine

This VP leads HSN’s largest division which includes Medicine, Critical and Emergency Care, Community Care/Rehabilitation/Nephrology, the North East Specialized Geriatric Centre, the Hospitalist Service and Care Transitions/Patient Flow/Utilization. This VP champions HSN’s key goal of being patient and family-focused. This includes desired outcomes of improving patient satisfaction with admission and discharge, pursuing continuous quality improvement, providing clinical leadership to the implementation of the new regional Electronic Medical Record going live in April 2023, and promoting senior friendly care. With responsibility for patient flow in and out of the organization, this VP develops plans to improve internal and external capacity, flow and resource utilization. This VP plays a key role in increasing HSN’s acute care capacity including a Reactivation Care Unit opening in December 2022, and advancing capital master plan priorities of more acute care beds and mental health and addictions redesign in the Emergency Department. This VP works closely with the Chiefs of Anaesthesia, Critical Care, Cardiovascular Sciences, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine/Hospitalists and Medicine, will be tasked with strengthening medicine sub-subspecialties, serves as regional critical care representative, and advises the Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI) on ways to grow its research efforts including for cardiovascular health and healthy aging.

 

Regional VP Cancer Care and VP Social Accountability

This VP leads the North East Cancer Centre, Mental Health and Addictions, NEO Kids and Family and Inter-Professional Practice, Indigenous Health, and Ethics, Religious and Spiritual Care. This VP champions HSN’s key goal of being socially accountable. This includes desired outcomes of enhancing mental health and addictions care, advancing inclusiveness and diversity, and improving health outcomes of Indigenous Peoples. As Regional VP Cancer Care, this person provides advice to Ontario Health on cancer care relevant to the region, develops regional cancer plans in collaboration with regional partners and builds relationships with local and regional partners to support the implementation of the Ontario Cancer Plan. This VP plays a key role in advancing HSN’s capital master plan with key components of the plan meeting future space demands for mental health and addictions care and clustering programs for kids and youth. This VP works closely with the Chiefs of Obstetrics/Gynecology/Midwifery, Oncology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry, has dual accountability to Ontario Health (Cancer Care), and advises the HSNRI on ways to grow its research efforts including for cancer solutions and Indigenous health.
