The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the key role of Clinical Resource Nurse.

The Organization

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is the leading health care provider on the western James Bay coast. WAHA comprises of hospitals in Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, with a Health Centre in Moosonee. WAHA also provides regional outpatient programs, as well as Paramedicine services in Moose Factory, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, and Peawanuck. The span of services, complexity of care needs in the region, and the depth of health integration has made WAHA a leader and a model of health care services in Northern Ontario. WAHA consists of 450 employees, a Physician team, many students, as well as community stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the nursing team to provide perinatal nursing care to expectant families by conducting comprehensive nursing assessments and supporting clinical decision making.
  • Participates in the establishment of a philosophy of care by developing models and standards to promote an interprofessional, shared model of care including nursing, midwifery, physicians, specialists.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the profession of nursing by certifying in added specialty skills as required by the specific practice area
  • Ensure all staff maintain competencies in obstetrical care in collaboration with the nursing management
  • In collaboration with other members of the team, creates and coordinates education and orientation programs with current standard.
  • Educates through classroom sessions, one on one interactions working directly with patients and staff. And on-line learning modules including documented evidence of competencies acquired.
  • Establishing updated evidence-based policies and procedures and ensures equipment and supplies are adequate and functioning
  • Demonstrate quality improvement actions and a best practice approach in nursing practice
  • Building a supportive network with other organization in the province to achieve the highest quality of obstetrical care close to home
  • Maintain and advance your own clinical competence
  • Participate in designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned
  • Responsible for completing all documentation in the EMR system within 48 hours of all contact with clients for any reason
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Complete and maintain statistical reporting
  • Maintains ongoing open communication with manager and staff

Qualifications and Experience

  • RN BScN Required
  • Master Preparation preferred
  • Registered with CNO
  • Certification in obstetrical care preferred
  • 7+ years of obstetrical experience
  • Experience with adult learning strategies
  • Expert mentor skills
  • Experience with quality improvement process

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Expert knowledge, skills, and abilities in maternal child health care
  • Experience in assessment of maternal health (ante/peri/postpartum) and neonates
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Experience working with First Nations People
  • Fluency in Cree an asset
  • Superior skills in verbal and written communication
  • Understands and implements care from trauma informed lens
