Unit Summary

The Hamilton General Hospital (HGH), as part of the HHS family, is the regional center of excellence in cardiovascular and stroke care, providing service to a population of 2.3 million residents within the Central South region of Ontario and beyond. We treat highly complex patients who are increasingly elderly with co-morbidities. This service is provided by five leading, independent groups: cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, stroke and thrombosis. Each of these services delivers highly skilled tertiary and quaternary care, provides Royal College Accredited training programs, and conducts world renowned research. 

Position Summary

As a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the job description, Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario, Standards of Practice for Critical Care Nurses in Ontario and applicable HHS policies.

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
2. Current BCLS certification (may be subject to provide proof)
3. Recent, within 2 years, nursing experience in Level 3 critical care unit (as defined by CCSO)
4. Demonstrated experience and ability in caring for patients requiring Hemodynamic and Cardiac Monitoring, Mechanical Ventilation, Resuscitation, Management of Shock Syndromes and other advanced life support interventions (subject to testing)
5. Demonstrated knowledge and application of interpersonal and inter-professional conflict resolution and HHS Values Based Code of Conduct and Mutual Respect
6. Demonstrated knowledge and application of critical thinking to effectively manage prioritization of work and respond to a rapidly changing environment.
7. Demonstrated knowledge and application of Service Excellence Behaviours to all interactions with patients and families.
8. Demonstrated commitment to self-directed professional education and development
9. Demonstrated understanding of Problem Solving and Continuous Quality Improvement Processes.
