Description of Duties:

 

Provides Registered Nursing services in assigned program areas within the Infectious Disease, Dental & Sexual Health Division, in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards and the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and practices as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act, and consistent with the mission, vision, values, and strategic directions of the Department.

 

Current Assignment:

 

These nursing positions will play an integral role in the prevention of COVID-19 transmission through the provision of COVID-19 vaccine to priority populations and the community at large.  The positions may involve work in long-term care, retirement homes and other congregate care environments as part of mobile immunization teams as well as work in mass immunization clinics.  
 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 

Must possess a current Certificate of Competence as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Current CPR certification, and proof of immunity for Hepatitis B are required.

Must be eligible and/or willing to have a COVID vaccination

Knowledge of Regional and Departmental policies and procedures, the Ministry of Health, Ontario Public Health Standards, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Health Care Consent Act, Personal Health Information Protection of Privacy Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Nursing Act, Child and Family Services Act, and other related legislation and professional guidelines and standards.

Knowledge of public health issues and strategies related to the reduction in incidence of infectious disease, outbreak control, infection control, and immunization, including indications and contraindications to vaccination and management of adverse vaccine reactions, such as anaphylaxis.

Knowledge of the principles of immunization and an awareness of infectious diseases.

Knowledge and skill in applying the nursing process and nursing science.

Knowledge of health education and promotion activities. Ability to apply relevant data to program and practice.

Computer skills with the ability to use software for data entry (electronic management records), case management, and document preparation, and conduct Internet-based searching and networking.

Skill in health counselling and telephone consultation. Communicates effectively with health care professionals community partners and the public. Ability to provide non-judgmental and inclusive service to all clients.

Ability to participate as an effective team member within a multi-disciplinary setting, and to support and project values compatible with the organization.

Ability to travel to various locations within, and occasionally outside Waterloo Region.
