NURSE PRACTITIONER (NP) - NURSING TEAM LEADER (NTL)

The Agency: Centre Jubilee Centre (CJC), located in Timmins, Ontario is a specialized community-based addiction & mental health service provider. Core programs and services, include 1. a Residential Mental Health and Addiction Crisis Support Program (Safe-beds), a high intensity dual purpose program providing medically supported integrated Mental Health Crisis and Withdrawal Management Services simultaneously to people in actual or, emergent addiction and, or mental health crisis, and 2. a Residential Treatment & Rehabilitation Program, offering high intensity – structured live-in, integrated addiction and mental health treatment, recovery, temporary housing & support in a modified therapeutic community environment. Other services and supports include Entry, Initial Assessment and Treatment Planning, Case Management, Continuing Care and OTN-TM Services.

Position Summary:   We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to work as a Nurse Practitioner - Nursing Team Leader (NP - NTL). Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, and in close collaboration with the Jubilee Leadership and Care Teams, Physicians, Psychiatrists and system partners the NP - NTL will provide nursing leadership and supervision to the agency’s nursing personnel and clinical awareness and education to the client care team. The incumbent will work collaboratively to develop, implement, enhance and evaluate the agency’s integrated addiction and mental health programs and services from a Nursing perspective. Primarily, but not exclusively, assigned to the Safe-beds the NP - NTL will provide nursing leadership and support across all Jubilee’s services, front-line responsibility for the nursing and medical components of the agency’s programming as well as providing nursing supports to partner agencies, as identified and agreed to by Jubilee and its’ partners. The NP - NTL will lead innovative, integrated Nursing and medically supported services to build capacity, increase access, quality and availability of specialized care, consultation & support to individuals with addiction & mental health problems, in accordance with professional standards, evidence-based/promising practice guidelines and legislative and funder requirements.

Through and beyond a mental health and justice lens, the incumbent will oversee and support the initiation, monitoring, and maintenance of Opiate Replacement Therapy (ORT)/Opiate Agonist Therapy (OAT) and provide support with voluntary withdrawal from alcohol and/or other substances to individuals who are either intoxicated/or in withdrawal and/or in MH and/or Justice Crisis. Services include routine medical consultation and medication management, including pain management, initiation and monitoring of anti-craving medications or medication tapering and mental health crisis de-escalation, monitoring, stabilization, referral and follow-up.

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Extended Class, RN(EC), Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Current Member in good standing with CNO
  • Current holder of one of the following NP certificates: NP-Primary Health Care preferred or, NP – Adult
  • CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing would be an asset
  • Certificate in Controlled Drugs and Substances: Essential Management and Prescribing Practices preferred
  • Certificate/Training in prescribing: OAT/ORT and anti-craving therapies preferred 
  • Experience in policy development, program planning and evaluation would be an asset
  • Experience working effectively with diverse communities/marginalized individuals who face barriers accessing services and experience in approaching work from an equity lens
  • Demonstrated experience working in a community-based Addiction & Mental Health setting; emphasis on Opioid/Alcohol Withdrawal Management/Harm Reduction, Treatment and Recovery
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively and respectfully in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment
  • Liability protection under NPAO (or independently) required
  • 2 years experience in delivery of primary care and in mental health/addictions preferred
  • Heightened sensitivity to the needs of people with addiction and/or mental health challenges and a passion for working with the target population
  • Excellent clinical skills and sound clinical judgment coupled with excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills
  • Solid problem-solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems and computers for word processing, email and data entry (Outlook, Excel, electronic medical records…)
  • Experience and ease with OTN and providing virtual care, would be an asset
  • Flexibility, tolerance for ambiguity and a good sense of humour are essential for this position
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both official languages, a definite asset
  • Indigenous cultural competency and ability to incorporate traditional Indigenous healing approaches, a definite asset
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with appropriate insurance coverage
  • A successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check

This is a newly created full-time permanent leadership/non-bargaining unit position for 35 hours per week. A competitive salary and benefits package and job description formulation is in process. Due to the novel nature of the position not all aspects of job requirements/qualifications are listed. These are expected to evolve and mature once an incumbent is in place.
