Surgical Services Manager Kenora, Ontario
Reporting to the Vice President, Patient Services/Chief of Nursing Officer, the Surgical Services Manager works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to develop, organize, manage and evaluate all aspects of the Surgical Services Department at Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH).
The Surgical Services Manager will be a leader in the expansion of the surgical services unit within the current hospital as well as a driving force behind the successful planning and implementation of an expanded surgical services establishment in a new All Nations hospital, currently in development. The Surgical Services Manager will promote and ensure departmental alignment with the Mission, Vision, Goals and Objectives of LWDH. They will support and adopt the surgical services team concept and mandate and participate in strategic planning for the organization, integrating surgical services into the organization as a whole.

As the Surgical Services Manager you will:
Manage the HR functions of the Surgical Services Department including scheduling, hiring, training, staff performance assessments, mentoring and support.
Implement continuous quality monitoring and improvement for the policies, procedures and operations within the Surgical Services Department.
Demonstrate management and leadership expertise in Perioperative patient care and participate in and facilitate professional development for yourself and other staff.
Manage the material resources of the Surgical Services Department ensuring supplies and equipment are functioning safely and appropriately.
Manage the financial resources of the Surgical Services Department including the preparation and monitoring of the department’s annual operating budget and ensuring the responsible allocation of resources.
Develop and amend departmental goals, objectives, systems, protocols and processes.
Develop new program proposals and deliver strategies to implement.
Oversee data collection and analyze statistics and relevant information to complete reports.
Participate in department and hospital planning and restructuring of existing facilities and programs to achieve maximum efficiency of services.
Participate in communications and public relations when necessary, including effective correspondence with staff, physicians, patients and the general public.
You and Your Experience:
A BSc or higher in Nursing with post graduate education or relevant experience in Management and/or Leadership.
Postgraduate program completion for Perioperative Preparation and Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CPN-C).
5 years’ of nursing experience in a Perioperative setting.
An understanding of CSA and MDRAO standards of practice.
Membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Membership with the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) is preferred.
Membership with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) is an asset.
Knowledge of legislation relevant to healthcare.
Knowledge of collective agreements and collective bargaining processes.
Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills to effectively manage the performance of members of various professional and nonprofessional groups.
Demonstrated ability to assess client needs, formulate goals and objectives, develop policy, analyze complex issues and evaluate quality.
Demonstrated ability to perform effectively and efficiently under constant pressure of stressful and critical situations in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
Evidence of continuing education in leadership and healthcare administration.
Knowledge of computer software including Meditech, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
