Portage is a not- for-profit organization that helps people overcome substance abuse- issues and associated behavioural problems in order to achieve positive lifestyle changes. Portage provides drug addiction rehabilitation treatment in its various centres in Atlantic Canada, Québec and Ontario. Portage Elora services youth aged 14 – 18 years of age.
Reporting to the Director of Nursing and under the administrative coordination of the facility director, the registered nurse is responsible for a variety of nursing services according to the health needs of the assigned users. As such, he / she plans, dispenses, evaluates nursing needs and collaborates in the administration of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic care. In addition, he / she participates in teaching the users and in research to promote health and disease prevention.
As a Registered Nurse (RN or RPN) you will have to:
Participate in the development of treatment plans of users in collaboration with the clinical team;
Update the files for each user, a file in which are recorded all the information relating to the physical and mental health;
Develop nursing care plans as required;
Assess, if necessary, more specifically the withdrawal complication risks and mental health in view of the health of the user and his consumption history;
Apply as needed and depending on the situation, the protocols in force; Apply routine health care through the application of his profession recognized care techniques;
Refer users to specialized medical resources required by their condition and maintains the link with those resources;
Collect and transmit to colleagues relevant data with regard to users` physiological, psychological and social needs referred to him;
Participate in case discussions of the multidisciplinary team;
Act as a resource person in consulting and research related to his profession; Contribute to the training of personnel, according to his field of competence and expertise;
Act as a guardian, tutor or supervisor of college or graduate trainees;
Perform any other related duties as requested by his immediate superior.
