THE ORGANIZATION

The Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) consists of the Brantford General Hospital as a regional acute health centre and the Willett site in Paris which provides urgent care, a 32-bed inpatient unit and community outreach programs. With a total of 300 beds, the BCHS has attracted more than 175 physicians, 1300 highly-trained employees, and over 500 volunteers. The BCHS is an affiliated teaching site of the McMaster University Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

Through creative and innovative use of resources and partnerships, the BCHS focuses on primary and secondary acute care, rehab, complex continuing care, palliative care, health promotion and mental health services. The BCHS is the regional centre for paediatrics, mental health, obstetrics, gynaecology, CT scanning, critical care, surgical services, ambulatory care and emergency medicine, and is also the site of the Brant Community Cancer Clinic and the S.C. Johnson Dialysis Clinic for patients throughout Brant County and Haldimand-Norfolk.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President Clinical Services and Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) is responsible for leading clinical operations (portfolio of approximately 800 FTEs) and ensuring compliance with legislative and professional accountabilities as the Chief Nursing Executive.  As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive is accountable for establishing processes and policies to achieve the provision of safe, quality, cost effective healthcare for BCHS patients. 

The BCHS is currently undergoing an exciting transformation and renewal focused on delivering exceptional patient-centred care and fostering a people-centred workplace culture. Under the leadership of a new Board of Directors and new President and CEO, this journey will be guided by the organization’s strategic plan: “Our Voice, Our Vision. This is Our BCHS”. In assuming this leadership position within this context of change and transformation, the Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive will want to focus on the following priorities and near-term expectations:

·       Quickly establish oneself as a valued member of the Senior Leadership Team, tending to the day-to-day operating issues while maintaining focus on key organizational strategic initiatives;

·       Embody and embed a culture of engagement, support, authenticity, and accountability/results;

·       Embrace a dyad leadership model of care and proactively work together with physicians to seek solutions to patient-flow and other challenges;

·       Harness learnings from upcoming accreditation to continue to drive quality;

·       Through effective collaboration and communication, earn the respect and trust of all stakeholders, internal and external.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Education:

·       A graduate degree or equivalent in Nursing or Health Administration (Masters in Health Administration or Masters in Business Administration)

Experience:

·       10 years progressive senior leadership experience with preferably five years in senior director or executive level role

Mandatory Certification/Registration (if applicable):

·       Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario

·       Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation an asset

Relevant Skills:

·       Demonstrated leadership ability, collaborator and team-builder

·       Demonstrated success with planning, organizational, leadership, management, labour relations, financial management, communication and related skills

·       A visible and compassionate leader who listens, consults, and collaborates and is able to coach others

·       Excellent communicator with all stakeholders within and external to the hospital and able to articulate simply complex matters

·       Exceptional writing skills

·       A demonstrated commitment for professional development and continuing education
