Position Overview:
Reporting to Manager of the oncology clinic, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities as required in an outpatient oncology clinic. Responsibilities will include monitoring of vital signs, administration of chemotherapeutic agents, and providing comprehensive education for patient and their family. Provides holistic nursing care to meet the emotional, psychological, informational, spiritual and practical needs of the oncology patient and their families. Acts as a navigator to support the patient through the continuum of care in the oncology setting. The incumbent must possess strong empathic communication skills advance knowledge in the care and maintenance of Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD) as well as exceptional ability in the insertion of peripheral vascular devices. It is also necessary to have a broad knowledge basis on current treatments for oncology patients and demonstrate sound judgment in the safe administration of these treatments.

.Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario
.De Souza Institute Provincial Standardised Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course required
.CNA Oncology Certification or eligibility to write within 12 months is required
.Two (2) years current experience in the knowledge and delivery of chemotherapy and biotherapy agents
.Two (2) years current experience working with oncology patients through various stages of their illness
.Competent in care and maintenance of all CVAD's and the initiation of peripheral IV therapy
.Current CPR Health Care provider and competent to perform CPR
.Knowledge of principles of adult learning
.Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
.Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills working with patients, families, and all levels of the health team
.Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement and critical thinking.
.Demonstrate computer skills related to electronic documentation and Microsoft office applications
.Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
.Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work record
.Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
.Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Rouge Valley's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
.Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
