Working under the direction of the Assistant Dean, Health, Wellness, Recreation, Physical Activity and Sport, the Manager, Health & Wellness is responsible for managing the daily operations, programming, and staff in the Health & Wellness Centre, and ensuring programs, services, and processes adhere and lead on best practices. The Manager will lead services in the Health & Wellness Centre that support student wellness, in order for students to achieve personal and academic success.
Responsibilities of the position include: assist in the development of departmental strategic plans; lead and manage a team of staff to provide high quality health and counselling services, supports and programming to students; oversee programming areas within the Health & Wellness Centre including all support staff, clinical staff and consultants; evaluating the effectiveness of programs; identifying opportunities for improvement and engagement of the student population; ensuring the safety and adherence to departmental protocols and polices; participating in budget development, analysis and oversight; and helping to identify new revenue sources for the department in collaboration with the Student Affairs grants and sponsorship officer.
The Manager contributes to and promotes diversity and equity goals within the department, and works to ensure that across all of health & wellness, issues of access, equity and inclusion in general operations, program relevance, development of programming, liaison and outreach to student and campus groups are strong.
The Manager will work closely and in an integrative way with staff of the Athletics & Recreation Department to support UTSC’s goals of creating a healthy campus for all students, staff, and faculty. The incumbent actively initiates collaborations with peer staff across the UTSC Student Affairs division, works closely with peers at the St. George and Mississauga campuses as well as Associations from other Universities and Colleges, to provide UTSC students with high quality, accessible, equitable and timely services and supports.
Master’s degree in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Health Sciences, Social Work or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in working in a leadership capacity managing clinical staff, preferably in an interdisciplinary counselling and/or healthcare team environment in the community, hospital, or postsecondary setting.
Must have experience administering budgets, developing and managing program schedules, program development and evaluation, servicing multiple user groups, project management and a proven track record working in a collaborative and partner driven way. Strong experience with electronic health records and experience in a University or similar educational environment are an asset.
Solid computer skills including Word and Excel. Excellent oral and written communication skills; effective leadership skills including the ability to motivate others; strong interpersonal skills with ability to build and maintain positive and professional relationships; highly collaborative approach; an innovative and creative mindset, initiative; tact and diplomacy; proven conflict resolution skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and independently, and to collaborate with all levels of staff and volunteers; proven ability to develop creative plans and solutions; results oriented. Knowledge of professional licensing bodies, PHIPA, provincial and federal health legislation required. Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and innovation to improve efficiency.
Enthusiasm for working with young adults or postsecondary students, a sound commitment to the University’s mission and values and an understanding and commitment to diversity and equity issues. Ability to stay current on approaches developed and used within healthcare and counselling support services. Must have CPR and first aid certification.
