Make a difference in this unique role where you will be responsible for facilitating reporting/data collection, monitoring and oversight related to Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) deaths at the Office of the Chief Coroner – Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS).
What can I expect to do in this role?
As a member of the death investigation team, you will:
•provide broad-based medical expertise to support and oversee the MAiD process through facilitating the reporting of MAiD deaths
•identify and analyze relevant information and documents and interview parties, including clinicians as well as family and friends of the deceased person
•participate in the ongoing collection and management of accurate MAiD-related data for tracking and trend analysis
•provide advice to the Team Lead, MAiD and medical management colleagues to determine appropriate next steps
•provide recommendations to the Chief Coroner and Deputies due to severity of MAiD implications and assist the Chief Coroner in overseeing the implementation and evaluation of innovative approaches to service delivery related to MAiD
•develop and maintain working relationships with a variety of stakeholders in death investigation, including families, forensic pathologists, forensic scientists, law enforcement personnel and other agencies
•participate in inter-ministerial and inter-governmental committees/task forces and maintain ongoing liaison to work collaboratively on issues and projects
How do I qualify?
BSc in Nursing and/or current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in order to provide professional nursing expertise.
Technical Knowledge and Experience
•Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology, toxicology, clinical preparation in conducting a death investigation
•Understanding of the role, activities and mandate of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, death investigation protocols and medical standards and practices
•Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Coroners Act, Anatomy Act, Bill C-14(federal) and OCC Code of Ethics, to understand their application to death investigations
Analytical and Research Skills
•You can develop and implement processes, guidelines, standards and protocols for the conduct of death investigations across the province
•You possess research techniques and strategies to identify and assess issues and trends with potential impact on the death investigation system
Consultative and Advisory skills
•You can recommend new/revised approaches, policies and procedures to the Chief Coroner and Deputy Chief Coroners
•You can make presentations as an active member of the MAiD investigation team
Communication (oral and written) and Presentation skills
•You can lead training programs, prepare and present research findings, reports and briefing papers
•You can research information, prepare proposals and enable analytics/data analysis
Salary Range: $76,814.40 - $92,393.60 per year
