Parkview Home is a 128 bed fully Accredited Long-Term Care Home operating under the Long-Term Care Homes Act 2007 regulations. The Home has been owned and operated by The Mennonite Home Association of York County for more than fifty years.

 There are five Resident Home Areas (RHA) in the Home named to honour our environment, nature and Parkview's heritage. Each RHA has its own dining room, sitting room and activity rooms.


Job Description

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director of Care leads the nursing department for the facility, and promotes a philosophy which supports the implementation and maintenance of a holistic quality of life for all residents, meeting their identified unique needs and preferences.  Reporting to the Administrator, the Director of Care is directly responsible for the performance, ongoing improvement and development of the nursing services and clinical programs for effective resident care.

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
  • Develops, implements and maintains policies and procedures, goals and outcome measures for the resident care services in accordance with established standards of nursing practice and relevant government legislative acts
  • Responsible for ensuring the  individualized health care needs of residents are identified and met
  • Promotes collaboration and coaching of nursing staff for clinical management of resident care needs
  • Liaise with government agencies, stakeholders and the general public for excellent community relationships
  • Develops, implements and monitors the annual department budget and provides basis for variances
  • Responsible for the recruitment, performance management, staff development and disciplinary matters for all reporting staff in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement.
  • Monitors standards of care through CQI and other performance evaluation systems

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 
  • Current RN registration with the CNO; BScN is preferred
  • Previous experience as a DOC in a Long Term Care facility is preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in a management position in a long-term care setting, or post RN education in gerontology and management
  • Proven leadership ability & strong communication skills; comfortable interacting in a leadership role with staff, residents, their families and external agencies and community resources 
  • Working knowledge with relevant regulations and compliance (LTCH Act 2007)
  • Proven budgetary and financial acumen
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment with collective agreements
  • Demonstrated resident focussed care philosophy
  • Strong computer skills for job-related functions and use of clinical software
