The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Child Health, in the Healthy Living division. The specific area of responsibility for this position lies with the child health component of the Child and Youth Health team and reports to the Director, Healthy Living.
The Manager will provide leadership and supervision to a team of multi-disciplinary professionals, guided by Ontario Public Health Program Standards.The Manager will oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of operational plans including monitoring and reporting on all budgets for related programs. A major emphasis is on building capacity through collaborative partnerships with a variety of community agencies to promote and advocate for elementary-aged school children in London and Middlesex County. This involves partnering with school communities and boards of education. The Ministry of Education’s Foundations for a Healthy School serves as a guiding document for the Child and Youth teams’ operations. It emphasizes the creation of dynamic, collaborative partnerships among children, parents, teachers, principals, school councils and other community agencies concerned with the health and learning of children. This position will also act as the lead for parenting.
In addition to managing the Child Health team, the Manager will be a key collaborator and provide integration on an interdisciplinary divisional leadership team related to program and strategic planning.
• B.Sc.N with current College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) license as a Registered Nurse and Masters degree in a health or related discipline required.
• Minimum of 3 years’ direct people management experience in the last 5 years, specifically in a unionized environment and with continuous learning focused on the development of management competencies.
• Strong understanding of public health, specifically working with children and youth, is necessary.
• Demonstrated experience in program and strategic planning, including Balanced Scorecard, budgeting, project management, engagement and relationship building with partners and stakeholders.
• Communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills commensurate with the expectations of a management position.
• Knowledge and skills in information technology, including social media, and an understanding of the social determinants of health are preferential.
• The ability to communicate in French or other languages would be considered an asset.
